Auntie Peggy had a rare gift for making every person feel seen, loved, and at home. I still find myself feeling awkward and unsure at large Chan family gatherings. And without fail, as soon as Auntie Peggy arrived, she would brush aside formalities, directly grab my hands, my arms, my shoulders, even my whole self, and physically draw me right in. In an instant, she could make me feel at ease. Then I would stand aside and watch as she did the same for my two socially awkward kids. Her warmth wrapped around us like a gentle embrace, and her kindness left an imprint on every heart she touched. Though her absence leaves a quiet ache, her love lives on in our memories and in that way she is still with us. Auntie, you left us far too soon, but the gift of your presence will stay with us always. We will miss you deeply.

Sharing a story about my Aunt Peggy (Baht Leung): When you're a little girl playing house, one of the first rules is picking a grown-up name for your pretend grown-up self. My cousin picked Priscilla for Victoria Principal's character on the nighttime soap "Dallas." I picked Peggy for an equally glamorous woman who made a big impression on me. In my young eyes, Aunt Peggy was the epitome of style. She had perfectly permed hair, an actual wardrobe color palette- black and white ( which I've subconsciously adopted living in NYC), she wore big earrings and she was the first woman I knew who wore bright red lipstick at home, just because. Aunt Peggy looked good. What I didn't realize yet, was one of the reasons she looked good was because she was confident and comfortable in her own skin. Aunt Peggy was true to herself in a way that many women of her era were not, especially many immigrant women. She knew who she was. She knew what she liked. She knew what she wanted and that she had the ability to get it herself. Upon reflection, even decades later, I realize that Aunt Peggy is as much my role model now as she was then.

We feel really sad for auntie Peggy’s passing. It must be really hard time for uncle and family. Please take care! We are always very grateful of all the love and help from auntie Peggy. I still remember vividly when uncle and auntie attended my graduation ceremony and the good time spent with auntie. Auntie Peggy was so loving, kind, and generous. Luckily, we were able to visit and spend some time with auntie and uncle during the last Christmas and New Year holiday. We will be missing auntie Peggy tremendously. She is such a good mom, grandma, auntie, sister, and everything to all her family and friends!

To my beloved Aunt Peggy, I will always remember how kind you were to me. I still remember the beautiful dress you gave me to wear for my piano recital when I couldn’t afford a dress. I was so happy and felt like a princess. I will never forget your kind smile and your “A” when you spoke to us. You are one of the nicest and calm person I know. I will forever remember you. Love, Lily
